one of the most impressive underground rap projects i’ve heard in a while matt proxy’s “trojan horse” is officially out, and whether you’re an artist or a listener, if you’re a fan of something that you haven’t heard before, matt’s album is something i think you should tap in with matt was an artist we listed as one to keep an eye on to have one of the biggest rises in 2026, and this project is going to do just that for him. he’s got fakemink, grimes, current joys, and never goodbye as the features on this, and the sheer level of genre-bending from hiphop to grunge to electronic and more is wild matt has been an artist that’s offered a bit of an interesting approach to the distorted, blown-out sound that’s become so popular in the underground. instead of being a centerpiece, that style is rather utilized as a tool to bring so many of the tracks on this project to life, and in turn keeping the ear of what most fans in the underground know today close matt had his huge blowup on this year’s earlier “UGS cypher,” which featured a few beat switches ending in that super blown out sound. the song “catfish” was another huge moment for him there are a ton of samples and vocal chops laced throughout this, from tyler, the creator to jpegmafia. peggy is actually someone who brought matt on tour for the “experimental rap” tour. a few months ago, we saw matt link up with fakemink as well matt has been vocal about his mental health struggles, especially dealing with the loss of his sister, and also touching on his upbringing in some songs through this album. to me, the project feels very accepting of various things that have happened in his life to lead up to where he is, as he manages to bring those topics gracefully to light in what’s an extremely cathartic listen if you’re a fan of experimental hiphop, i strongly recommend giving this a listen. one of my favorite listens of the year without a doubt and i can’t wait to dig in to more matt’s established himself as one of the most talented names in upcoming hiphop with this. thoughts if you listened to “trojan horse?” lmk below <3 — #mattproxy #fakemink #jpegmafia #kennymason #experimentalrap
