Marcus Chatman Jr. was a 14-year-old high school freshman and youth football player who was tragically shot and killed on June 18, 2026, in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.The IncidentAccording to the Chicago Police Department and his family, Marcus was walking with a group of people in an alleyway in the 8000 block of South Carpenter Street around 11:30 p.m. when he was shot twice in the back. His mother noted that investigators have surveillance footage showing the group of "so-called friends" walking behind Marcus before one pulls out a gun and shoots him. Marcus was pronounced dead at the scene. As of late June 2026, police are actively hunting for the suspect, and no arrests have been made.
