The fatal beating of 17-year-old high school student Jonathan Lewis Jr. occurred on November 1, 2023, in a back alley near Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident, which was captured in highly graphic social media videos, drew national and international attention to youth-on-youth violence.🔴 The Altercation and DeathThe Cause: According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the altercation stemed from a confrontation over a stolen marijuana vape pen and wireless headphones belonging to Lewis's friend.The Attack: Surveillance and cellphone footage showed Lewis pushing a student, removing his sweatshirt, and throwing a punch. Immediately after, a mob of up to 10 teenagers swarmed Lewis, pushing him into a fence, forcing him to the ground, and repeatedly punching, kicking, and stomping him until he was unconscious.The Death: A bystander and a student carried Lewis back to the high school campus.
